National Income Accounting

Medieval Arab bureaucrats were literate and numerate and left behind data on governments accounts, customs and duties, taxes projected and collected, establishments accounts, probate inventories, expenditures etc. The purpose here is to develop totals representing the size and composition of the country/region economies. The totals we aim to get are regional (national) income and regional (national) expenditure. The ultimate goal is to estimate GDP, namely the total value of goods and services produced. In other words, we aim to get estimates of levels of output and GNP, estimates of country total income. The totals could be used for comparison between years or regions
